Q1. What is SkyWatchNetwork?

SkyWatchNetwork is a global community of skywatchers. We bring people together to observe the night sky, share discoveries, and explore the unknown. We organize skywatching evenings, provide professional searchlight tools, and connect skywatchers around the world.

Q2. What makes SkyWatchNetwork unique?

Unlike astronomy clubs or UFO research groups, SkyWatchNetwork focuses on bringing people together for shared sky observation experiences. We use professional searchlights — the most powerful portable lights in the world — to illuminate the night sky. Our focus is on community, exploration, and discovery.

Q3. Who is SkyWatchNetwork for?

SkyWatchNetwork is for everyone who looks up with curiosity. Whether you are a student, teacher, researcher, factory worker, doctor, or retiree — you are welcome. No experience needed. Just curiosity.

Q4. Is SkyWatchNetwork a commercial company or a non-profit?

SkyWatchNetwork is a community network — a division of The Exchange, a registered organization in the Netherlands. We are mission-driven and focus on bringing people together. We offer tools and services to support the network.

Joining & Participation

Q5. Can I join SkyWatchNetwork?

Yes. SkyWatchNetwork is open to anyone. There is no membership fee to join as a participant. You can attend events, share observations, and connect with the community.

Q6. Do I need experience to join?

No. No experience is needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to look up.

Q7. Do I need my own equipment to participate?

No. The searchlight and other equipment are provided at our skywatching events. You can also bring your own binoculars, cameras, or other observation tools if you like.

Q8. Is there a membership fee?

No. Participation in SkyWatchNetwork events is free or low-cost (depending on the event). There is no mandatory membership fee.

Q9. Can I bring children to events?

Yes. Children are welcome, but they must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

Events & Activities

Q10. What happens at a skywatching evening?

We gather in a dark-sky location. We set up the searchlight and scan the night sky together. We share observations, discuss what we see, and explore the unknown. It is a shared experience of discovery and community.

Q11. Where are events held?

Events are currently being planned in the Netherlands and beyond. Locations will be announced on our website and social media channels.

Q12. How often do you organize events?

We are planning regular events. Frequency depends on weather and location. Check our website for upcoming dates.

Q13. What if the weather is bad?

Events may be canceled or rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions. Participants will be notified in advance.

The Lights (Tools)

Q14. What searchlight do you use?

We use the SkyWatch X-1 — the world's most powerful portable searchlight. It delivers 3.3 billion candlepower with a 15 km effective range. We also offer the SkyWatch X-11.5km as a more affordable entry-level option.

Q15. Can I buy a searchlight from SkyWatchNetwork?

Yes. The SkyWatch X-1 and SkyWatch X-11.5km are available for purchase. Contact us for pricing and availability.

Q16. Can I rent a searchlight for my own event?

Yes. Rental options are available for organizers. Contact us for details.

Q17. Do I need special training to use the light?

Yes. All operators must receive training before using the equipment. Training is provided by SkyWatchNetwork.

Organizers

Q18. Can I host my own SkyWatchNetwork event?

Yes. We are looking for passionate people to become local organizers. You can host events in your area under the SkyWatchNetwork name.

Q19. What support do organizers receive?

Organizers receive:

• Tools — access to searchlights (purchase or rental)
• Support — guidance and resources
• Community — connection with other organizers
• Promotion — events listed on our website and social channels

Q20. What does it cost to become an organizer?

Organizers pay a fee per event or an annual fee. Contact us for current pricing.

Q21. Do I need insurance to host events?

Yes. Organizers are required to carry their own liability insurance for events.

Technical Questions

Q22. How far does the SkyWatch X-1 light reach?

The system delivers effective 1-lux illumination at 15 kilometers. The beam remains visible as a light pillar for 35–50+ kilometers in the atmosphere.

Q23. What power source does the light need?

The SkyWatch X-1 requires a 208–264V AC power source — which is standard European mains voltage (220–240V). Just plug it into a normal wall outlet. No transformer, no special wiring.

Q24. Is the light safe to look at?

No. Never look directly into the beam. It is extremely bright and can cause eye damage. Safety instructions are provided at all events.

Q25. Is the light weatherproof?

Yes. The system has an IP66 rating — waterproof and dustproof. It is built for outdoor use.

Legal & Safety

Q26. Is SkyWatchNetwork liable for accidents at events?

SkyWatchNetwork takes safety seriously. All participants attend events at their own risk. Organizers carry their own liability insurance. Participants are required to follow all safety instructions.
